Ingredients (per serving of 5 capsules)(200 capsules per bottle, a 40 day supply):
Glucosamine 1500 mg
Chondroitin 1200 mg
MSM 2000 mg
Glucosamine HCL
Glucosamine stimulates the cartilage cells to produce the needed proteoglycans, large molecules that give cartilage strength and resilience, allowing it to stretch and then resume its normal form as the joints moves. A deficiency of glucosamine will result in low levels of proteoglycans that are inadequate in maintaining healthy joints. Glucosamine is one of the main ingredients of the synovial fluid that lubricates and provides nutrients for the joint structures. This synovial fluid reduces friction in the joints allowing for effortless motion. It not only lubricates the joints but it also acts as a comfortable shock absorber. Furthermore, glucosamine inhibits several enzymes whose job is the break down of "old" proteoglycan molecules nearing the end of their normal life span. In summary, glucosamine not only stimulates the production of cartilage but it can also improve joint function, increase flexibility, mobility, and help reduce the pain of those suffering from osteoarthritis.
A 2007 study found that daily glucosamine supplement of 1500 mg was more effective than placebo in treating knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Glucosamine is an effective ingredient for arthritis cure.
Chondroitin Sulfate
One of chondroitins primary functions is to draw fluid into the proteoglycan molecules. This fluid not only acts as a shock absorber but also carries nutrients into the cartilage. As the body ages the production of synovial fluid declines. Without the synovial fluid, the cartilage would lose moisture and degrade, jeopardizing the integrity of the entire joints which grinds together resulting in nagging discomfort. In addition, chondroitin sulfate can be an effective arthritis treatment by protect existing cartilage from a premature breakdown. It does this by inhibiting certain enzymes that destroy cartilage and enzymes that prevent the transport of nutrients.
When combined, the synergistic effect of glucosamine and chondroitin helps produce more hyaluronic acid, which increases synovial fluid viscosity, promotes flexibility and range of motion
One of the most significant recent clinical studies on glucosamine / chondroitin for joint health was the National Institute of Health-sponsored Glucosamine/Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) which involved more than 1,500 knee arthritis patients. The conclusion indicated that the combination had a remarkable 79.2% effective rate in reducing moderate to severe knee pain than placebo.
It was announced at an American College of Rheumatology meeting that the combination of Glucosamine and Chondroitin show promise among persons with moderate to severe discomfort.
MSM(methysulfonylmethane) is a naturally occurring sulfur compound found in our bodies, milk, coffee, tea and green vegetables. Dr. Ronald M. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D., clinical professor at UCLA School of Medicine conducted a double-blind study on the use of MSM in treating patients with degenerative knee arthritis, hip arthritis, shoulder joint pain, or hand arthritis. The preliminary study indicates that MSM may offer a safe, non-toxic way to relieve osteo-arthritis pain effectively.
